About the position

The Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver position at Johnston County Public Schools is designed to support K-3 students in their academic and behavioral development. This role involves providing instructional assistance, monitoring student behavior, and fulfilling bus driving duties as needed. The assistant will work closely with the classroom teacher to enhance the learning environment and ensure student engagement and safety.

Responsibilities

• Gives group instruction as prescribed by teacher; provides individualized instruction.
• Demonstrates various instructional activities and checks students' work while in progress.
• Praises and reinforces achievement of students and reports student progress to the teacher.
• Arranges classroom furnishings and equipment, prepares visual aids, and duplicates materials.
• Serves as proctor during testing; scores students' papers as instructed by the teacher.
• Checks and reports attendance, enters data in health records, and records student behavior.
• Supervises students in the classroom and other locations such as hallways and playgrounds.
• Creates and distributes awards for positive behavior and promotes student self-esteem.
• Reconciles minor student conflicts and participates in the development of discipline policy.
• Serves as a Bus Driver/Sub Bus Driver/Bus Monitor as required by the principal.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
• Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
