About the position

The Teacher Assistant: Permanent Substitute serves in a substitute capacity for absent teachers, ensuring continuity of instruction across all curriculum areas. This role involves assisting teachers with special projects, working with students individually or in small groups, and performing various clerical tasks to support instructional staff. The position is designed to provide relief for teachers during planning periods and requires effective communication and collaboration with both students and faculty.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a substitute for absent teachers, following lesson plans and continuing daily instruction.
• Discuss with teachers what occurred during their absence to ensure continuity of learning.
• Extend lesson plans and provide necessary reinforcement of instruction and materials as required.
• Assist teachers in planning, implementing, and evaluating instructional lessons and strategies.
• Work with students on special projects, lessons, and assignments.
• Prepare instructional materials such as posters, charts, and game boards.
• Supervise lunch, playground, and bus duties as directed.
• Perform clerical tasks including correcting work papers, maintaining attendance records, and managing student folders.
• Set up learning and activity centers for student engagement.
• Individually tutor and assist students who are experiencing difficulties.
• Attend and participate in staff development activities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 48 college credit hours required.
• 1 year of experience with virtual learning technology and remote instruction platforms, if assigned to Virtual Academy.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and communicate well with students, teachers, and parents.

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language preferred, especially for bilingual program assignments.
• Experience with Learning Management Systems and video conferencing tools.
