About the position

The Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver position at Johnston County Public Schools is a full-time role focused on supporting the educational environment for Pre-K students. The assistant will work closely with teachers to provide academic assistance, monitor student behavior, and ensure a positive learning atmosphere. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities related to driving a school bus or activity bus as needed, requiring appropriate certification and adherence to safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Gives group instruction as prescribed by the teacher and provides individualized instruction.
• Demonstrates various instructional activities and checks students' work while in progress.
• Keeps students on task and praises their achievements.
• Reports student progress to the teacher.
• Arranges classroom furnishings and prepares visual aids and instructional materials.
• Serves as a proctor during testing and scores students' papers as instructed.
• Checks and reports attendance and enters data in health records.
• Supervises students in various locations and promotes positive behavior.
• Reconciles minor student conflicts and participates in the development of discipline policies.
• Serves as a Bus Driver/Sub Bus Driver/Bus Monitor as required.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Must meet Highly Qualified Status by holding a 2 or 4 year degree, completing 48 Semester Hours, or completing the Pathways to TA Class and WorkKeys Test.
• Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
• Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
