About the position

The West Suburban YMCA is seeking a dedicated and passionate Part-Time Teacher Assistant to join our Preschool Department. This role is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about working with young children and are committed to helping them reach their full potential. As a Teacher Assistant, you will provide direct supervision to a group of children in a state-licensed program, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment that aligns with the YMCA's core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. In this position, you will be responsible for planning and implementing program activities that are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate. You will adhere to YMCA and state standards, including safety and cleanliness protocols, and participate in staff meetings and training sessions. Building positive relationships with parents and staff is crucial, as is modeling effective relationship-building skills in all interactions. You will also have the opportunity to engage in various activities, both indoors and outdoors, and contribute to family nights and program activities. Responsibilities

  • Supervises a group of children in a state-licensed program.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate.
  • Adheres to YMCA and state standards including safety and cleanliness.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA and EEC policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children.
  • At least 18 years of age preferred.
  • Child CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • EEC trainings within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Reliable, consistent, a team player and enthusiastic.
