About the position

The Teacher Assistant - Student Coach position is designed to support refugee students in navigating the American educational system. Under the supervision of school leadership, the assistant will help prepare class materials, correct assignments, and provide various services to ensure that refugee students can successfully engage with their education. The role emphasizes collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, and interpreters, to advocate for the needs of refugee students.

Responsibilities

• Assist Refugee Family Advocates in meeting with refugee students.
• Facilitate communication between refugee students, counselors, and schools.
• Support refugee students with credit deficits and credit recovery efforts.
• Maintain and update the refugee database.
• Aid students in obtaining appropriate clothing, school supplies, and transportation.
• Deliver UTA bus passes to students.

Requirements

• High School graduation or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Basic office/secretarial skills.
• Strong communication skills to facilitate collaboration with school personnel and interpreters.

Benefits

• Salary of $15.95 per hour for 3.9 hours per day over 9 months.
