About the position
The Teacher Assistant - Title I will assist the teacher and students in the classroom or in a vocational program. Knowledge of students with disabilities, curriculum modification, learning styles, and appropriate accommodations is necessary. This position reports to the Academic Curriculum Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Participate in daily and classroom activity planning.
- Conduct learning exercises with small groups or individual students.
- Guide students in working with other students.
- Alert the teacher to special needs of individual students.
- Help maintain individual records for each student.
- Help to maintain discipline under supervision of teacher.
- Assist teacher in maintaining a safe and clean work and study environment.
- Assist with the supervision of students during regular classroom/shop periods.
- Collect data for IEP reviews/reevaluations.
Requirements
- College credit and/or experience preferred.
- Ability to relate positively to high school students and colleagues.
- Exemplary personal and professional history supported with references.
- Experience with special needs students, strong reading skills or reading background, and ABA certification preferred.
- Ability to work effectively within in-person and remote educational models.
- Ability to inspire excellence, achieve consensus, and respond effectively to the system's mission with humor and enthusiasm.
