About the position

The Teacher Assistant at Amazing Explorers Academy of Lake Nona plays a crucial role in supporting the lead teacher in managing a classroom of children. This position requires a strong understanding of developmentally appropriate practices to ensure that all activities and curriculum are effectively implemented as directed by the Academy's Director. The Teacher Assistant will be actively involved in the supervision of children, ensuring their safety and engagement during various activities. This role is not only about assisting with educational tasks but also involves fostering a nurturing environment where children can thrive socially and academically. In addition to supervising children, the Teacher Assistant will be responsible for counseling them when social, academic, or adjustment issues arise. This requires a keen awareness of each child's needs and the ability to provide appropriate support. The Assistant will also develop, plan, and prepare instructional materials that enhance the learning experience, ensuring that the classroom remains a vibrant and engaging place for children. Maintaining a clean and safe environment is paramount, and the Teacher Assistant will help ensure that the classroom's appearance meets the Academy's standards. This includes assisting children during meal times and clean-up, as well as managing various administrative tasks such as daily notes, student accident reports, and attendance records. Participation in staff meetings, academy events, and parent meetings is also expected, fostering a collaborative atmosphere among staff and families. The Teacher Assistant will help prepare and implement lesson plans and schedules, ensuring that all classroom and outdoor equipment is in good working condition. This role is dynamic and may involve performing other duties as assigned, making it essential for the Assistant to be adaptable and proactive in their approach to supporting the lead teacher and the children in their care.

Responsibilities

  • Helps and supervises children during all activities
  • Counsels children when social, academic, or adjustment problems arise
  • Develops, plans, and prepares instructional aids/materials for classroom activities
  • Ensures that the appearance, cleanliness, and safe environment of the classroom are appropriately maintained
  • Helps children with meal times and clean-up
  • Helps with all academy and classroom paperwork, such as daily notes, student accident reports, and attendance reports
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, academy events, and parent meetings as requested
  • Helps prepare and implement classroom lesson plans, programs, and schedules
  • Ensures that all classroom and outdoor equipment are in good working condition and are used and maintained properly
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must meet all requirements stipulated by the state for this position
  • Pleasant/friendly demeanor and an outgoing personality
  • Highly professional and dependable
  • Must be able to interact appropriately with students of all ages and skill levels as well as with parents, coworkers, and management
  • Must be able to lift fifty pounds, sit on the floor and interact with children
