About the position

The Teacher Assistant position is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting students with exceptional needs. This role is situated within the Program for Exceptional Students at Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, with assignments across various component districts throughout Jefferson County. The Teacher Assistant will work closely with certified teachers to facilitate instruction and assessment, ensuring that students receive the support they need to thrive in an educational environment. In this role, the Teacher Assistant will assist in preparing lessons and educational materials, contributing to the overall learning experience of students. Effective management practices will be employed to address the diverse needs of students, creating an environment that is conducive to learning. The position also emphasizes the importance of professional development, encouraging staff to engage in ongoing training and educational activities to enhance their skills and effectiveness in the classroom. This position offers a competitive salary range of $21,000 to $21,063, which is commensurate with the candidate's certification and experience, in accordance with the current negotiated agreement with the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA). Responsibilities

Requirements

• NYS Teacher Assistant Certification
• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of Child Abuse workshop
• Completion of School Violence workshop
• Fingerprinting clearance through NYSED
• Assessment of Teacher Assistant Skills Test (ATAS)
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics
• Knowledge of curriculum content and accepted methods of instruction
• Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
