About the position

The Teacher for AUT-Resource-Level IV in Special Education at Twin Rivers Middle is responsible for creating and implementing educational programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with autism. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum and the ability to integrate effective instructional practices that promote student learning and development. The teacher will plan appropriate learning experiences based on the district's curriculum, ensuring that the classroom environment is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of students. In this role, the teacher will demonstrate a command of the subject matter, develop instructional objectives, and evaluate student progress through formative and summative assessments. The teacher will also be responsible for selecting and modifying resources and activities to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring that lessons are engaging and linked to students' prior knowledge and real-world applications. Collaboration with administrators, colleagues, and parents is essential to foster a supportive learning environment. The teacher will utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including technology integration, inquiry-based learning, and collaborative opportunities, to enhance student achievement. Maintaining a positive classroom atmosphere, managing student behavior, and participating in professional development are also key responsibilities of this position. The teacher will be expected to act as a role model, demonstrating professionalism and effective communication with all stakeholders involved in the educational process.

Responsibilities

  • Plan for appropriate learning experiences for students based on the district Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum.
  • Demonstrate command of school subject being taught.
  • Develop and prioritize short and long-term instructional objectives based on district AKS curriculum.
  • Identify specific prerequisite skills and/or knowledge necessary for students to learn the AKS.
  • Plan instruction as needed to promote student mastery of prerequisite skills and knowledge.
  • Analyze student work and assessments to determine instructional needs.
  • Prepare written lesson plans to support instructional objectives of the AKS for all students.
  • Plan appropriate assessment of student learning.
  • Evaluate, select, and modify resources and activities.
  • Provide initial focus for the lesson by communicating specific learning objectives to students.
  • Organize content for presentation of the lesson in a logical sequence.
  • Utilize scientifically researched effective instructional strategies and methods of providing information for students to acquire the learning.
  • Provide formative assessment that measures student progress toward AKS objectives.
  • Provide summative assessment that measures student achievement of objectives.
  • Organize learning environment to maximize student time on task.
  • Maintain behavior that is conducive to learning.
  • Participate in professional growth and professional learning activities.
  • Maintain professional responsibilities and act as a role model.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Meets Georgia certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a Professional Standards Commission (PSC) approved college or university required.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum.
  • In-depth knowledge of content in field of certification.
  • Ability to understand the teaching/learning process.
  • Ability to infuse technology into instruction to increase student learning.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, and school based staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective human relations skills.
