About the position

The Teacher Director I is responsible for the overall operation of an assigned center or site, ensuring compliance with Community Care Licensing and Head Start Program Performance Standards. This role involves coordinating educational development for children, supervising staff, and fostering a safe and stimulating learning environment. The position aims to empower individuals to thrive as healthy, self-sufficient members of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a classroom teacher to facilitate children's growth in social, emotional, cognitive development, and cultural awareness.
  • Complete ongoing assessments and prepare individualized plans for each child.
  • Confer with parents to discuss children's growth and establish school readiness goals.
  • Ensure the special needs of children with disabilities are met appropriately.
  • Create a safe and healthy environment in compliance with regulations.
  • Train and encourage Teacher Assistants in classroom procedures and planning.
  • Conduct home visits for each child during the school year.
  • Monitor and observe classrooms, providing written reports as required.
  • Coordinate center operations and ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
  • Conduct training and provide guidance to classroom staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information on staff, children, and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field (preferred).
  • Associate's degree in Child Development or related field (required).
  • Minimum of 24 units in Child Development/Early Childhood Education required.
  • Six units in administration required.
  • Two units in adult supervision required.
  • 24 months of experience as a preschool teacher required.
  • 12 months of staff supervision experience required.
  • Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Infant/Child CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or other languages may be required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Head Start programs preferred.
  • Former Early Head Start/Head Start parents preferred.
