About the position

The Teacher - DLI-Spanish position at Hickory City Schools is designed to create an engaging and effective learning environment for students in grades K-2. The teacher will be responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instructional materials that facilitate the educational and social development of students. This role requires a commitment to maintaining a high level of student engagement and ensuring that all students are on task during lessons. The teacher will manage instructional time effectively, ensuring that materials and supplies are prepared in advance and that lessons begin promptly. In addition to managing instructional time, the teacher will establish and enforce rules and procedures that govern student behavior, ensuring a respectful and productive classroom environment. The teacher will monitor student behavior during various activities and transitions, addressing any inappropriate behavior while maintaining the dignity of each student. Instructional presentation is a key component of this role, requiring the teacher to introduce lessons clearly, provide relevant examples, and summarize key points at the end of each lesson. The teacher will also be responsible for monitoring student performance, providing timely feedback on both in-class and out-of-class assignments, and using assessment data to inform instructional planning. Interacting positively with students, parents, and colleagues is essential, as is the ability to perform non-instructional duties as needed. The teacher will adhere to established laws, policies, and regulations while pursuing professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and effectiveness in the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare instructional materials and equipment for each lesson.
  • Establish and enforce classroom rules and procedures for student behavior.
  • Monitor student behavior during instructional and non-instructional activities.
  • Present lessons clearly and effectively, using understandable language and relevant examples.
  • Provide timely feedback on student performance and assignments.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.

  • Perform non-instructional duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

  • Degree in education or a related area qualifying for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
  • Ability to use various classroom tools and equipment, including computers and calculators.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply logical thinking to solve problems and interpret technical instructions.
  • Ability to motivate students and maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, to enhance communication with students and parents.
