About the position

The Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education and Social & Behavioral Sciences at John Brown University (JBU) seeks a full-time faculty member for a position that combines teaching and direction of the Professional Development School (PDS) program, beginning July 1, 2025. This position includes teaching undergraduate courses across various areas aligned with the candidate's expertise (e.g., Math Education, STEM, English/Reading, Early Childhood, Special Education, and other K-12 specialties). As PDS Director, the faculty member will work closely with the department chair to organize and oversee internships and field experiences within local school districts. Responsibilities include building and managing relationships with K-12 school partners to enhance fieldwork opportunities, supporting students in their practical training, and contributing to the development of professional experiences that prepare students for successful careers in education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in various areas of expertise.
  • Direct the Professional Development School (PDS) program.
  • Organize and oversee internships and field experiences within local school districts.
  • Build and manage relationships with K-12 school partners.
  • Support students in their practical training.
  • Contribute to the development of professional experiences for students.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Teacher Education or related field.
  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate courses.
  • Commitment to integrating Christian faith and learning.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in the K-12 setting.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and leading in curriculum initiatives.
  • Administrative experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in field related to Teacher Education.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of Northwest Arkansas schools for partnership and collaboration.
  • Experience with professional development schools or coordinating field experience, practicum, internships, and stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated experience with differentiated instruction/early childhood education.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex educational systems and adapt strategies to meet evolving standards.
