About the position
The Boston Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified Elementary Teacher for a long-term substitute position in a K1 classroom. This role is designed for educators who are passionate about teaching in an SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) setting and are committed to fostering a positive learning environment that supports all students. The position is expected to start on November 1, 2024, and end on December 31, 2024, and involves implementing district learning goals, creating engaging lesson plans, and assessing student progress.
Responsibilities
- Teach in an SEI setting for elementary students.
- Provide an interdisciplinary course of study integrating reading, writing, and analytical skills development.
- Implement district learning goals and objectives using the district-supported curriculum.
- Create a developmentally appropriate, child-centered environment with positive behavioral expectations.
- Establish classroom structure that values positive relationships and implements appropriate curriculum.
- Administer district mid-year and end-of-year assessments.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree.
- Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience teaching in urban schools.
- Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in Elementary 1-6 and an SEI endorsement or dual certification in ESL.
- Degree in Education.
- Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.
