About the position

The Teacher Elementary Science position at Illinois School District U-46 is focused on implementing the district's science curriculum to enhance academic achievement for all students. The role involves planning and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student progress, and collaborating with colleagues and parents to support student learning.

Responsibilities

  • Plans a program of study that follows district guidelines for multiple grade levels and meets the individual needs of students.
  • Implements researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students, acknowledging a range of abilities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Creates a conducive learning environment and motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
  • Implements the current district science curriculum that is grade level appropriate.
  • Plans for and guides the learning process toward mastery of science curriculum goals, establishing clear learning targets and success criteria.
  • Implements school improvement plans and strategies.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, students, and parents regularly, as requested by administration.
  • Collaborates with the Office of K-12 Science & Planetarium for support in implementing the science curriculum.
  • Implements formative and summative assessments of student progress to drive instruction and communicates progress to students and parents.
  • Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior, motivating students to reach their highest potential.
  • Works cooperatively with the building principal and/or director to assess teaching strengths and weaknesses and improve teaching competencies.
  • Participates on curriculum, personnel, policy, or professional development committees related to the educational program.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assists administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in assigned areas.
  • Prepares for assigned tasks and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes and/or provides assigned duties in designated locations and times, including in-person and hybrid instruction.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Appropriate Illinois Educator License K-9 Elementary Education Endorsement (Gen Ed Science Teacher in Monolingual Building Only).
  • Dual Language Buildings: K-9 or PK-12 Bilingual Education-Spanish Endorsement (Dual Language Science) required.
  • K-9 Elementary Education and K-9 or PK-12 ESL Endorsement (Gen Ed Science Teacher in Dual Language Building Only) required.
  • Knowledge of the Illinois Learning Standards (CCSS 2014).
  • Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Knowledge of phenomena-driven, inquiry instructional strategies is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement the RtI process and tiered instruction and interventions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching experience is preferred, but not necessary for hiring.
