About the position

We are seeking a highly motivated individual that is committed to working with others to provide students with teaching and learning that supports their academic and socio-emotional growth. The EL teacher will work with language learners of WIDA levels 1-5 using both co-teaching and pull out models. The position requires close planning and collaboration with classroom teachers to ensure students receive language and grade level instruction that increases access for all. The ideal candidate should have experience teaching English Language at the elementary level and should hold an ESL license in Massachusetts. This individual should intentionally and effectively build strong relationships with his/her students, and should be methodical in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students. Furthermore, this candidate should be highly reflective and see themselves as a lifelong learner.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning, developing and implementing various instructional experiences through creativity and resourcefulness which lends to the educational growth and development of targeted students.
  • Responsible for effective classroom presentation techniques and reviewing, correcting and reinforcing instructional lessons to enhance the learning and retention process.
  • Responsible for techniques of testing/confirmation of level accomplishment.
  • Responsible for effective techniques of classroom management/discipline and behavior reinforcement.
  • Responsible for demonstrating effective techniques to gain cognitive development.
  • Responsible for identification and referral procedures for students requiring Special Education.
  • Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, religion, national origin, gender identity, marital status, sexual orientation, disability or homelessness.
  • Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for remaining up to date regarding curriculum content.
  • Responsible for effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction.
  • Responsible for mentoring students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusting instruction, materials, or assessments, when appropriate.
  • Responsible for effective management of classroom environment.
  • Responsible for effective instruction, which includes making learning goals clear to the students, using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
  • Responsible for using innovative approaches, and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.
  • Responsible for the promotion of high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Responsible for the promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including, for implementing specific strategies for students with special needs, with 504 plans and/or second language learners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Massachusetts Licensure as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher.
  • SEI Endorsement or dual licensure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced educational preparation in the area of English as a Second Language methodology.
  • Experience in the area of Bilingual/Bicultural education and second language acquisition.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs.
  • Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese or an African Language.
  • Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition.
