About the position

The Boston Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified English Teacher for a long-term substitute position for grades 9-12. This role is crucial in providing quality education in an SEI setting, focusing on English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism. The position is expected to start on October 15, 2024, and end on November 12, 2024, and aims to support students in achieving academic proficiency and closing the achievement gap.

Responsibilities

• Teach English in an SEI setting.
• Develop and adapt curriculum materials to guide and challenge students.
• Assess students' understanding and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Create a productive learning environment where all students feel valued.
• Engage with families to build collaborative relationships in support of student learning.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's degree.
• Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
• Current authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience teaching in urban schools.
• Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English at the appropriate grade level.
• SEI endorsement or dual certification in ESL.
• Degree in English or a related field.
• Fluency in one of BPS' official languages such as Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.
