About the position

The Foreign Language Teacher (Arabic) position at Boston Public Schools is a long-term substitute role expected to start on December 6, 2024, and end on June 30, 2025. The teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Arabic, fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment, and supporting the academic achievement of all students. This role emphasizes the importance of cultural proficiency, effective communication, and collaboration with families to enhance student learning.

Responsibilities

  • Teach foreign language (Arabic) to students at the appropriate grade level.
  • Set ambitious learning goals for all students and create cognitively demanding tasks.
  • Assess students' understanding regularly and adjust instruction as necessary.
  • Engage with families and build collaborative relationships to support student learning.
  • Reflect on teaching practices and seek feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Create a respectful environment that values students' diverse backgrounds and identities.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree.
  • Possess a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in the required foreign language (Arabic).
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified according to NCLB.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience teaching in urban schools.
  • Fluency in one of BPS' official languages (Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali).
  • Certification in Moderate Disabilities or English as a Second Language.
