About the position

The Kindergarten Teacher at Richmond Public Schools is responsible for providing high-quality education to young learners, fostering a positive and engaging classroom environment. The role involves planning and implementing educational programs tailored to the individual needs of students, assessing their progress, and maintaining effective communication with parents and school staff. The teacher will also participate in professional development and contribute to the overall mission of Richmond Public Schools.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment appropriate to the developmental level of students.
  • Prepare for classes and show written evidence of preparation in accordance with guidelines.
  • Guide the learning process towards achieving curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for lessons.
  • Establish high expectations for academic success and classroom behavior.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
  • Identify special needs and seek assistance from specialists as necessary.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports to supervisors and parents.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and policy.
  • Assist in designing, upholding, and enforcing school rules and policies.
  • Participate in faculty and department meetings and maintain professional competence.
  • Exert leadership in collaboration with school and RPS staff.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials and resources.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students and parents.
  • Engage in professional growth through workshops, seminars, and advanced coursework.
  • Assist in preparing data for reports and collecting data for interventions.
  • Participate in faculty committee meetings and other responsibilities related to student services.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for a valid provisional, collegiate, or postgraduate Virginia professional license in an elementary endorsement area.
  • One year of teaching experience or its equivalency preferred.
  • Experience conducting lessons and assessing student progress preferred.
  • Experience maintaining student discipline and meeting with parents preferred.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus.

  • Experience providing ongoing academic guidance for students.
