About the position

The Kindergarten Teacher at Anne Arundel County Public Schools is responsible for teaching young children aged 4 to 6 years in various subjects including natural and social sciences, personal hygiene, music, art, and literature. The role aims to promote the physical, mental, and social development of students through diverse teaching methods and activities. The teacher will create a supportive learning environment, engage students in cooperative social behavior, and communicate with parents regarding student progress.

Responsibilities

• Teaches elemental natural and social sciences, personal hygiene, music, art, and literature to children aged 4 to 6.
• Plans, prepares, and presents lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans to meet the needs of all students.
• Uses audio-visual teaching aids to present subject matter.
• Maintains an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children.
• Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment and materials.
• Maintains order and discipline in the classroom.
• Keeps attendance and grade records as required.
• Prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results.
• Counsels pupils on academic and adjustment problems.
• Confers with parents and students regarding progress and problems.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings and provides input on instructional goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.
• No prior experience required.
• Knowledge of school organization, goals, and objectives with emphasis on teaching techniques.
• Knowledge of materials in the field of specialization.
• Ability to effectively speak and write.
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse populations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

• Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications such as Video/Web Conferencing.
