About the position

The Teacher of Language Arts for Grades 9-12 at Gwinnett County Public Schools is responsible for creating a conducive learning environment that fosters the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. This role involves planning and delivering effective instructional experiences based on the district's Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum, assessing student progress, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance student learning outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan appropriate learning experiences based on the district AKS curriculum.
  • Demonstrate command of the subject being taught.
  • Develop and prioritize instructional objectives based on district AKS curriculum.
  • Evaluate, select, and modify resources and activities to meet student needs.
  • Organize content for lesson presentations in a logical sequence.
  • Utilize effective instructional strategies and methods for student learning.
  • Provide formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and achievement.
  • Maintain a learning environment that maximizes student engagement and time on task.
  • Participate in professional growth and learning activities to enhance instructional skills.
  • Maintain professional responsibilities and act as a role model for students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a PSC approved college or university.
  • Meets Georgia certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum.
  • Ability to infuse technology into instruction to increase student learning.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with integrating curriculum and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups including students, parents, and community members.
