About the position

The Teacher, Math Resource position at Harper Park Middle School is designed to provide specialized support in mathematics to students and assist teachers in delivering effective math instruction. The role focuses on assessing student needs, implementing intervention programs, and leading professional development for educators in mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Assess the mathematics strengths and needs of students and communicate findings to parents and educational staff.
• Coordinate the administration of mathematics assessments and monitor student progress using assessment data.
• Provide mathematics intervention to students struggling with the subject.
• Support and extend classroom teaching to implement a quality mathematics program that meets student needs.
• Lead professional development in mathematics, including modeling strategies and mentoring teachers.
• Maintain knowledge of the Virginia Standards of Learning curriculum standards in mathematics.
• Complete required math department training, including Math Workshop training.
• Attend monthly math department collaboration meetings to align services and resources for teachers and students.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor for mathematics.

Requirements

• Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignments.
• Hold or be eligible for licensure in Virginia as a mathematics specialist.
• Three years of successful classroom teaching experience with a focus on mathematics.
• Knowledge of current research and best practices in teaching mathematics.
