The Middle School Art Teacher will provide high-quality instruction to students while collaborating with the school leader, colleagues, students, parents, and the board to achieve the academy's educational goals. This role requires the teacher to work as a collaborative team member to implement the academy's curriculum and accomplish both short- and long-term academic objectives. The teacher will create a classroom environment conducive to learning, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior, and enforce the academy's student discipline code. Additionally, the teacher will collaborate in the implementation of initiatives such as school-wide behavior management systems. The teacher will be responsible for planning a program of study that meets the individual needs and goals of students, establishing clear objectives for all lessons and units, and ensuring that lessons are aligned with state curriculum and school-wide standards. This includes developing lesson plans, submitting them for review, and working cooperatively with the academy's instructional coach to improve the quality of instruction based on feedback. The teacher will also participate in ongoing analysis and planning to ensure the curriculum remains aligned with state standards. Collaboration with special education staff is essential to implement an inclusive approach for students with special needs. The teacher must remain aware of student needs, participate in child study teams or individualized education planning, and implement accommodations as indicated in student IEPs. The teacher will also work with other staff to implement grant-funded programming aimed at accelerating learning for students with diverse needs, including special education and at-risk students. Maintaining accurate and complete records is crucial, as is the confidentiality of student information. The teacher will communicate with parents, encourage their participation in their child's learning experiences, and provide regular updates on student performance. Professional development is also a key aspect of this role, requiring the teacher to maintain competence through conferences, mentoring, and continuing education. The teacher will inform the school leader of needed instructional resources and may participate in extracurricular activities such as coaching or tutoring as assigned.
