Boston Public Schools is seeking an exceptional Special Education Math Teacher for students with Moderate Disabilities and Learning Disabilities for grades 9-12. This long-term substitute position is expected to start on October 28, 2024, and conclude on February 28, 2025. All substitute teachers are hired as per diem substitutes, beginning at the per diem rate of pay. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to high expectations for student achievement and equal access to quality instruction, aiming to close the achievement gap among diverse student subgroups. The successful candidate will join a community of dedicated teachers and leaders who value creativity, innovation, and the unique skills and abilities of each educator. In this role, the teacher will implement district learning goals and objectives in alignment with state frameworks, focusing on identifying access points for student portfolio development. The teacher will provide small-group instruction tailored to students diagnosed with moderate to severe cognitive delays, ensuring their understanding and progress in the general curriculum. Responsibilities include writing and implementing goals and objectives consistent with each student's Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), providing timely progress reports, and making necessary accommodations for student learning and testing. The teacher may also develop and implement curriculum and analyze student work in preparation for the MCAS Alternative Assessment to ensure student progress. Collaboration is key in this position, as the teacher will work as part of a team within the school to support other staff members in addressing student needs for modification. Additionally, the teacher will assist students in transitioning to adult living services as appropriate.
