About the position

The Teacher of Adults (Spanish) position at Christina School District is a full-time, temporary, and contracted role located in Newark, DE. The primary responsibility of the instructor is to prepare and deliver instruction and activities based on the program's curriculum to adult learners. Candidates must possess a valid State of Delaware Certification in World Language Teacher - Spanish and have a minimum of two years of successful teaching experience, either in K-12 or adult education settings. The role requires strong written and oral communication skills, as well as organizational abilities to manage a diverse classroom effectively. In this position, the instructor will be responsible for teaching students in assigned subject areas, focusing on reasoning and problem-solving skills within a hybrid and/or virtual learning environment. Continuous assessment of students' learning is essential, and the instructor must adapt their teaching methods to meet the varying needs of individual students and groups. The instructor will deliver prepared lessons aligned with the Delaware Adult Education curriculum and will utilize various teaching methods to engage students. Additionally, the instructor is expected to attend staff meetings and participate in professional development activities sponsored by state and local organizations. They will also be responsible for referring adult learners facing challenging life issues to appropriate resources and maintaining communication with students who have excessive absences. The role includes preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports, staying informed about current trends in education, and ensuring safety and security in the classroom. Other duties may be assigned by the administration in accordance with the program's policies and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching students in assigned subject area(s) with an emphasis on reasoning and problem solving in a hybrid and/or virtual learning environment.
  • Assessing students' learning on an ongoing basis and altering instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Delivering prepared lessons for students associated with the State of Delaware Adult Education curriculum.
  • Instructing students individually and/or in groups using various teaching methods and the Delaware Adult Basic Education state curricula.
  • Attending staff meetings and state and local sponsored professional development activities periodically.
  • Referring adult learners with challenging life issues to appropriate resources.
  • Contacting students with excessive absences.
  • Preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports.
  • Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
  • Ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the classroom area.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with program's policies and practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Education.
  • Hold a State of DE Certification in World Language Teacher - Spanish.
  • Minimum of 2 years of successful experience teaching K-12 or adult learners.
  • Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in classroom teaching.
  • Proficient in the use of technology; specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
