About the position

The Teacher of Students with Autism and/or Students with Severe Intellectual Disabilities at Brandywine School District is responsible for providing specialized education to children, adolescents, and young adults. The role focuses on equipping students with essential skills for independence in academics, socialization, behavior management, daily living activities, and communication. The teacher will develop tailored lesson plans, maintain a supportive classroom environment, and foster relationships with students and parents to enhance student achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop daily and unit lesson plans that are goal-oriented and aligned with curriculum standards.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages engagement and meets educational standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and behavioral performance.
  • Provide prompt and specific feedback to students and promote active participation.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and collaborate with staff.
  • Plan for substitute teachers and ensure lessons are aligned with state content standards.
  • Participate in professional development and continue to grow as an educator.
  • Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Special Education preferred.
  • Possess or be eligible for educator licensure and/or certification in Delaware for Teacher of Students with Autism or Severe Disabilities.
  • Experience with students with autism and/or severe disabilities.
  • Strong classroom management, organization, planning, and instructional delivery skills.
  • Ability to utilize differentiated instructional methods to engage students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in leadership roles within educational settings.
  • Familiarity with technology integration in lesson planning.
