About the position

The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TOD) at P.G. Chambers School is responsible for providing a quality educational program tailored to students with hearing impairments. This role involves assessing student needs, collaborating with families and staff, and utilizing specialized equipment to support language development and learning. The position can be filled by both part-time and full-time candidates, contributing to the school's goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Use professional knowledge to address the needs of the deaf/hearing impaired student population, demonstrating respect for individual differences, cultures, and learning needs.
  • Assess the educational needs of students who are deaf or hearing impaired, gather data to determine student needs, measure student progress, guide instruction and intervention, and provide timely feedback to students, families, and staff.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding students with hearing loss.
  • Oversee the use of technical and other specialized equipment for students with hearing loss.
  • Oversee communication needs and language development in signed and/or spoken language as appropriate.
  • Provide training and teaching to children or staff to facilitate the child's learning, inclusion, and independence, including the use of specialist equipment and teaching materials.
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals in classrooms.
  • Maintain and develop up-to-date knowledge of good practice in education, specifically in relation to children who are deaf or hearing impaired.
  • Effectively plan, coordinate, and manage programs consistent with established guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education with certifications as Teacher of the Handicapped/Teacher of Students with Disabilities and Teacher of the Deaf.
  • Background and experience with students with multiple disabilities required.
  • At least one year experience in an educational setting preferred.

Nice-to-haves
