About the position

The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) is a specialized educator responsible for teaching students with hearing impairments. This role involves addressing the unique language and learning needs of these students, implementing individualized instructional plans, and ensuring compliance with Montana Content Standards. The teacher will work collaboratively within the DHH Department to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment, utilizing various teaching strategies and assistive technologies to enhance student learning and self-advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach students who are deaf and hard of hearing, addressing their unique language and learning needs.
  • Design and implement individualized instructional plans based on each student's needs.
  • Utilize various assessment methods to evaluate and identify individualized learning needs.
  • Collaborate with families and other professionals to improve educational outcomes for students with exceptionalities.
  • Implement evidence-based instructional strategies, including the use of assistive technology.
  • Create a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse backgrounds.
  • Monitor and adjust instruction based on the effectiveness of teaching methods and student progress.

Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible for a Class 1 Professional Teaching License or Class 2 Standard Teaching License from The Montana Office of Public Instruction.
  • Hold eligible endorsements such as 32A HI, 32A SPE, 32E SPE, or 32S SPE.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices for teaching students with hearing impairments.
  • Understand the impact of hearing loss on language development and learning.
  • Ability to create and implement personalized, safe, and respectful learning experiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hearing assistive technology and its application in the classroom.
  • Knowledge of bilingual instructional methods for deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Familiarity with community resources for families of children with disabilities.
