Responsibilities
- Assess students informally and formally to provide individualized classroom programs.
- Design plans and activities to meet individual IEP goals.
- Provide individualized education programs for hearing students in accordance with state mandates.
- Establish a classroom environment that addresses students' social, emotional, and academic needs.
- Assist and counsel students in assessing their abilities and setting educational or career goals.
- Maintain attendance records and other pertinent reports.
- Provide continuous consultation and management outside the classroom as needed.
- Assist students with regular class assignments.
- Screen, evaluate, and recommend student placements in the program.
- Collaborate with regular classroom teachers to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Assist professional staff in identifying and resolving psychological or disciplinary issues.
- Confer with parents and staff regarding students' educational and emotional needs.
- Participate in professional growth and development related to teaching.
Requirements
- Valid New York State Teacher Certification for Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
