About the position
Aspen School District is looking for a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to join our Special Education department. This position is crucial in providing specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments, ensuring they have access to a quality education tailored to their unique needs. The Teacher will work closely with students, parents, and other educators to create an inclusive learning environment that fosters academic and social growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support the inclusion of students in mainstream classrooms.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate students' progress and needs.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and needs.
Requirements
- Valid teaching certification in Deaf Education or related field.
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators and support staff.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with assistive technology for hearing impairments.
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL).
- Familiarity with IEP development and implementation.
