About the position

The Teacher of the Deaf - Itinerant position at Clarke Pennsylvania Inc. involves providing direct and consultative services to students with hearing loss in mainstream classrooms from preschool through high school. The role focuses on supporting students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and includes collaboration with educators, families, and other professionals to enhance the educational experience of students with hearing loss.

Responsibilities

  • Guide schools in developing effective support systems for students with hearing loss.
  • Provide direct services to students as indicated in their IEPs, including push-in and pull-out sessions.
  • Collaborate with teachers to adapt their teaching styles for students with hearing loss.
  • Recommend modifications and accommodations for students.
  • In-service general education staff on educating students with hearing loss.
  • Monitor language development and provide one-to-one instruction as needed.
  • Promote self-advocacy skills among students with hearing loss.
  • Facilitate parent involvement and support family goals in education.
  • Monitor the use of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other assistive devices.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and assist in developing Individual Education Programs.
  • Plan and present workshops and ongoing training for staff.
  • Write quarterly reports to contracted school systems describing services provided.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Deaf Education with an emphasis on listening and spoken language.
  • MA Department of Education License as a Teacher of the Deaf.
  • Teaching experience with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid U.S. Driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, including those with hearing loss.
  • Flexibility in dealing with families and professionals.
  • Ability to participate in IEP meetings and assist in writing goals.
  • Proficiency in writing reports and correspondence.
  • Knowledge of amplification, adaptive equipment, and applicable technology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with technology including email, internet, word processing, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

  • Competitive salary ranging from $60,000 to $65,000 per year.
