About the position

The World Language Teacher is responsible for motivating students to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language. The teacher will interpret the culture of the countries where the language is spoken and discover and develop the special talents of pupils in foreign language communication. The position requires certification by the State Board of Examiners in New Jersey and reports to the Principal or his/her designee.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches skills and knowledge in world language instruction to secondary pupils, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instructs pupils in basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Provides learning experiences that develop basic communication skills, utilizing technology as appropriate.
  • Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of the culture of countries where the world language is spoken.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies as authorized; maintains required inventory records.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Encourages students to maintain standards of classroom behavior and self-discipline appropriate to learning.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs of all students.
  • Implements the district's instructional goals and objectives established and approved by local and State Boards of Education.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis during each marking period and maintains accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior in compliance with school and district policy.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and fulfills required duties.
  • Cooperates in the development of a working relationship with all members of the faculty and other members of the school community.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program.
  • Participates in the construction and development of curriculum guides appropriate to one's academic discipline.
  • Maintains a level of professional competence appropriate to the specific area of certification and assignment.
  • Prepares and maintains clear lesson plans to provide continuity of instruction.
  • Performs other related professional duties as required.

Requirements

  • Certified by the State Board of Examiners in the State of New Jersey
