About the position

The Teacher on Special Assignment for Special Education at Franklin-McKinley School District (FMSD) is a pivotal role designed to support students with diverse learning needs in a culturally rich and technologically advanced environment. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, FMSD is committed to fostering an inclusive educational atmosphere that caters to students from various backgrounds, primarily from Central and South America, Asia, and other regions. The district emphasizes a 21st Century Teaching & Learning Plan, which aims to transform traditional classrooms into engaging, technology-rich learning spaces that prepare students for future academic and career success. In this role, the teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. This includes collaborating with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education. The teacher will also provide direct instruction, support, and interventions to help students achieve their academic goals while fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Additionally, the Teacher on Special Assignment will engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and technology integration. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to advocating for the needs of students with disabilities, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and support to thrive in their educational journey.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices in the classroom.
  • Provide direct instruction and interventions to students with diverse learning needs.
  • Monitor and assess student progress towards IEP goals and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Engage with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and strategies for support at home.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills in special education and technology integration.

Requirements

  • Valid California Special Education credential is required.
  • English Language Learner Authorization (CLAD/CTEL, etc.) is necessary.
  • Completion of Subject Matter Exams (CSET/MSAT/NTE, Praxis or HOUSSE certificate) for NCLB compliance is required.
  • Basic Skills Exams (CBEST, etc.) must be completed successfully.
  • Three letters of recommendation are required.
