About the position

The Boston Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and qualified Physical Education Teacher for a long-term substitute position for grades K-8. This role is designed for educators who are passionate about fostering student achievement and engagement in physical education. The teacher will be responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes physical fitness and well-being among students. The position is set to start on October 1, 2024, and will involve teaching physical education while adhering to the standards of effective teaching established by the district.

Responsibilities

• Teach Physical Education to students in grades K-8.
• Set ambitious learning goals for all students and create cognitively demanding tasks.
• Assess students' understanding regularly and adjust instruction as necessary.
• Demonstrate mastery of content and convey it in engaging ways that align with standards.
• Scaffold and differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
• Build a productive learning environment where every student participates and feels valued.
• Engage with families to build collaborative relationships in support of student learning.
• Reflect on teaching practices and seek feedback for continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
• Massachusetts Teaching License in Physical Education at the appropriate level.
• Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
• Current authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience teaching in urban schools.
• Fluency in one of BPS' official languages (Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali).
• Certification in Moderate Disabilities or English as a Second Language.
