About the position

The Teacher Resource Specialist Trainer for Human Resources Development (HRD) at Polk County Public Schools is a pivotal role aimed at enhancing the educational outcomes for students with disabilities. This position is designed to identify, plan, coordinate, and deliver effective professional learning services that focus on increasing exceptional student education (ESE) student achievement. The individual in this role will work closely with administrators, teachers, support personnel, agencies, and families to assess their needs and organizational priorities, ensuring that the professional development provided is relevant and impactful. The responsibilities of the Teacher Resource Specialist Trainer include scheduling, planning, and conducting learning sessions that address the identified needs of the educational community. This involves collaborating with the FDLRS Program Administrator and other stakeholders to develop and implement multi-level, research-based professional learning activities. The trainer will also coordinate online professional learning initiatives, including the implementation of various educational programs and modules. In addition to facilitating professional development, the trainer will conduct classroom observations and provide feedback and technical assistance to educators regarding instructional strategies and behavior management. The role requires effective follow-up to ensure that the objectives of the professional learning activities are met, in accordance with the Florida Professional Development Evaluation Protocol. The trainer will also maintain training materials, coordinate documentation of in-service points, and promote awareness of FDLRS priorities within the community. This position requires a commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth, as the trainer will attend various training sessions, conferences, and workshops to stay updated on current trends and practices in exceptional student education. The role may also involve working evenings or summer hours as needed to fulfill the responsibilities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Identify the needs and organizational priorities of administrators, teachers, support personnel, agencies, and families working with students with disabilities.
  • Schedule, plan, conduct, or facilitate learning to address identified needs and priorities.
  • Plan, implement, and analyze the impact of activities in collaboration with FDLRS Program Administrator and advisory committees.
  • Develop, conduct, and facilitate multi-level, research-based professional learning activities related to exceptional student education.
  • Coordinate and promote the delivery of online professional learning, including the PDA program and Gifted modules.
  • Provide facilitation for online professional learning.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback/technical assistance regarding instructional strategies and behavior management.
  • Ensure implementation of professional learning objectives according to the Florida Professional Development Evaluation Protocol.
  • Coordinate with districts to ensure appropriate documentation of in-service points in a timely manner.
  • Maintain training materials and catalogs, including researching and making purchasing recommendations for instructional materials.
  • Establish rapport and maintain effective communication among schools, districts, universities, and agencies.
  • Research and disseminate relevant information concerning Exceptional Student Education to stakeholders.
  • Promote awareness of FDLRS priorities and functions in districts and the community.
  • Coordinate, plan, present, and attend local, state, and national conferences related to Exceptional Student Education.
  • Assist other projects by providing services as part of a collaborative effort when needed.
  • Attend training sessions, conferences, and workshops to keep abreast of current trends and practices.
  • Prepare, complete, and maintain required records, reports, and files in a timely manner.
  • Assist the FDLRS Manager in accomplishing grant goals and compliance with policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Master's degree and certification in Exceptional Education is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience is required, five years preferred.
  • Experience in development and delivery of professional development is necessary.
  • Computer proficiency, including using web-based technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in exceptional student education and knowledge of current trends and research in child development and learning styles.
  • Ability to apply adult learning theories in professional learning activities.
  • Knowledge of design and delivery of professional learning programs, including online instruction.
