About the position

The Quaker School at Horsham (TQS) is dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive educational environment for students with complex challenges, particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Sassafras Program is designed to help students build positive relationships, feel positive emotions, and develop a sense of control and purpose in their learning. This program offers a structured and supportive environment tailored to meet the specific academic and behavioral needs of each child. The focus is on reducing the intensity and frequency of challenging behaviors that can hinder social, emotional, and academic success in a traditional educational setting. As a teacher in the Sassafras Program, you will work under the direction of the Sassafras Director to provide direct support for students' academic and behavioral needs. You will be responsible for teaching assigned courses to a small classroom of 6-8 students, developing lesson plans, managing student behavior, and supporting their emotional and academic needs. Your role will involve evaluating student learning profiles, establishing class activities, and implementing special education strategies to enhance language, cognition, and memory development. You will also be expected to communicate clear objectives for lessons and maintain accurate records of student progress. Collaboration with the Behavior Support Team and classroom staff is essential, as you will implement evidence-based practices and Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs). You will also be responsible for crisis intervention when necessary, using Safety-CARE techniques as a last resort. The well-being of faculty and staff is equally important, and the school promotes a positive morale through fellowship and recognition of achievements within the community.
