About the position

The Teacher for Special Education Autism at Glendale Elementary School District is responsible for leading students with autism towards achieving their potential by implementing the district's curriculum in a way that meets individual needs. This role involves planning lessons, assessing student progress, and creating a conducive learning environment while adhering to district policies and fostering communication with students and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements the District approved program of study tailored to individual student needs.
  • Uses effective teaching techniques and materials to motivate students and achieve curriculum goals.
  • Prepares weekly lesson plans that correlate with curriculum objectives.
  • Monitors and assesses student progress, communicating regularly with students and parents.
  • Diagnoses and evaluates specific student needs, seeking assistance from district specialists as necessary.
  • Communicates objectives clearly to students in an organized manner.
  • Creates a respectful and conducive classroom environment for learning.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies for proper student behavior.
  • Develops reasonable classroom rules that promote a fair learning environment.
  • Creates educational experiences that foster personal-social adjustment and life skills development.
  • Promotes and follows the district's philosophy, policies, and regulations.
  • Maintains open communication with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
  • Supervises students on school property and during school-sponsored activities.
  • Maintains professional competence and strives for improvement.
  • Keeps accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Takes precautions to protect students and school property.
  • Collaborates with staff in planning instructional goals and selecting materials.
  • Identifies and addresses hazardous conditions that could threaten safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Valid Arizona teacher's Certificate for the appropriate grade level and/or subject matter.
  • Evidence of a comprehensive background in child development and instructional strategies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with behavioral management strategies.
  • Knowledge of stages of child development and age-appropriate activities.
