About the position

The Natick Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our innovative and supportive district. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the classroom and the provision of instruction tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. This includes the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), assessment, and curriculum design. The teacher will also supervise classroom staff and maintain ongoing communication with parents to ensure that student needs are met effectively. Collaboration with general education and special education teachers is essential to create an inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth and achievement. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a crucial role in supporting our diverse student population, which includes approximately 29% Students of Color and families that speak nearly 60 different languages. The position is full-time, requiring 183 workdays per school year, and reports directly to the Building Principal and the Director of Student Services. The starting date for this position is August 26, 2024, and the salary and benefits will be in accordance with the contract established with the Education Association of Natick Unit A. Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the classroom and provide instruction to students with disabilities.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs.
  • Conduct assessments and design curriculum that aligns with IEP goals and MA curriculum framework.
  • Supervise classroom staff and facilitate ongoing communication with parents.
  • Collaborate with general education and special education teachers to ensure student needs are met.
  • Implement behavior and incentive plans to support students' social-emotional needs.
  • Guide classroom support staff in implementing activities that support student goals and data collection.
  • Provide direct individual and/or group instruction through inclusion and/or resource models.
  • Conduct educational evaluations and developmental assessments for progress monitoring.
  • Prepare MCAS alternate assessments for assigned students.
  • Support the transition of students within the classroom and building using positive behavior supports and visuals.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to support school and district initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education; Master's Degree preferred.
  • MA DESE licensure in Special Education.
  • MA DESE SEI Endorsement required.
  • Additional certification in general education and/or ESL is highly desirable.
  • Ability to identify and utilize formal and informal assessments to measure student skill levels.
  • Understanding of child/adolescent development and best instructional practices for students with special abilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of IEP development and implementation, as well as relevant district, state, and federal policies.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in education.
