About the position

The Teacher for Special Education (Autism) at Loudoun County Public Schools is responsible for planning and implementing an instructional program tailored to meet the needs of students with autism. Under the general supervision of a principal or designated administrator, the teacher will provide educational services that are both effective and supportive, ensuring that students achieve their maximum potential. The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including monitoring student progress, managing classroom behavior, and collaborating with other educational professionals to create a conducive learning environment. Classes taught may vary in grade level and subject matter, and the teacher may work within a team or independently, depending on the specific educational needs of the students. Responsibilities

  • Assess student achievement and maintain assessment documentation for reporting purposes.
  • Plan and implement instructional strategies and activities tailored to student needs.

  • Participate in professional development activities and staff meetings as required.

Requirements

  • Valid Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education.
  • Eligibility for a Virginia teaching license in Special Education (transcripts required).
  • Knowledge of instructional content, curriculum, methods, and materials relevant to the assigned specialty.
  • Understanding of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development.
  • Familiarity with Loudoun County Public Schools curriculum and organizational goals.
  • Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs.
  • Skill in using multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
