About the position

The Teacher - Special Education position at Bush MS is a full-time role focused on providing specialized instruction to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a 6:1:1 classroom setting. The teacher will be responsible for addressing the academic, emotional, and physical needs of students, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and promoting a positive learning environment. This role requires physical capability to assist students with various needs and involves collaboration with parents and support personnel.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specially designed instruction in a special class setting.
• Align unit plans and lessons with NYS standards and Common Core Standards.
• Administer standardized tests to assess student strengths and skills.
• Draft annual goals and short-term objectives for CSE meetings.
• Evaluate and re-evaluate short-term objectives throughout the school year.
• Keep anecdotal records on student behaviors for CSE decision-making.
• Adapt educational activities to meet individual student needs.
• Collaborate with related service and support personnel for integrated programs.
• Consult regularly with parents, teachers, and counselors involved in student education.
• Plan and coordinate the schedule of classroom teaching assistants or aides.
• Follow the schedule and procedures of the building/district of assignment.
• Carry out all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid NYS Certification in Special Education for all grade levels/certification areas (SWD B-2; SWD 1-6; SWD 7-12).
• Ability to meet the academic, emotional, and physical needs of students, including heavy lifting and physical interventions.
