About the position

The Teacher for Special Education Functional Academics at Hutto Independent School District is responsible for providing specialized educational experiences tailored to the unique needs of special education students. The primary goal is to facilitate the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of these students through carefully designed learning activities. This role involves developing or modifying curricula and preparing lessons and instructional materials that align with the individual abilities of students. The teacher may work in various capacities, including self-contained classrooms, team teaching, departmental settings, or itinerant roles, depending on the assignment. In this position, the teacher will engage with students to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. They will be expected to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process to ensure that each student's educational needs are met. The teacher will also collaborate with other educators and support staff to enhance the educational experience for students with special needs. The role requires a commitment to ongoing professional development and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by students with severe disabilities. The teacher will be expected to adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed academically and socially.

Responsibilities

  • Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for growth.
  • Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and instructional materials to meet student ability levels.
  • Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and participate in the ARD Committee process.
  • Collaborate with other educators and support staff to enhance the educational experience for students with special needs.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments.
  • SAMA certification (or able to obtain after hire).
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area.
  • Knowledge of the ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting process and implementation.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • General knowledge of students with severe disabilities.
  • At least one year of student teaching experience or approved internship.
