About the position

The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) is seeking qualified adjunct faculty to teach Special Education courses for PK-12 students. This role is essential in providing a holistic learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of over 50,000 students annually. The adjunct faculty will be responsible for delivering instruction in various modalities, including in-person classes during the day, remote synchronous sessions in the evening, and fully online courses through CCBC's learning management system. In this position, adjunct faculty are expected to prepare and deliver engaging lessons, monitor student progress, and collaborate with college support staff to enhance the educational experience. Participation in required trainings and meetings is also a key component of this role. Faculty members will be selected based on the program's needs, their proficiency, course availability, and student enrollment numbers. Candidates are encouraged to specify their availability and preferred teaching modalities, as well as their preferred campus locations, which include Essex, Dundalk, and Catonsville. The pay for this position is set at $1,050 per credit hour, reflecting the college's commitment to attracting skilled educators who can contribute to the academic success of students in special education. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in special education, with a focus on best practices and legal requirements in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver instruction for PK-12 Special Education courses.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback.

  • Indicate availability and preferred teaching modalities for the semester.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in an education-related field is required; M.Ed. in Special Education is preferred.
  • Five years of teaching experience in a PK-12 special education setting is required; college teaching experience is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regarding special education procedures and policies is required.
  • Expert knowledge of developmental stages and best practices in special education evaluation, methods, and assessment is required.
  • Proficient working with learning management systems is required.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications are required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Mentoring and/or coaching experience is preferred.
