About the position

The Teacher, Special Education (K-2, Autism) position at Loudoun County Public Schools involves planning and implementing an instructional program tailored to meet the needs of students with autism in grades K-2. Under the general supervision of a principal or designated administrator, the teacher will provide educational services and monitor student progress. The role requires the ability to work within a team or independently, depending on the unique teaching specialty assigned. The teacher will be responsible for creating a conducive learning environment, managing student behavior, and coordinating instructional activities with other professionals to maximize learning opportunities. The teacher will continually assess student achievement and maintain appropriate documentation for both institutional and individual reporting purposes. This includes planning and implementing instructional strategies and activities that are appropriate for the students' needs, utilizing various instructional materials and technology to enhance learning. Communication with students regarding instructional expectations and progress is essential, as is maintaining open lines of communication with parents through conferences and other means. Additionally, the teacher will participate in professional development activities and collaborate with other professionals, such as guidance counselors and librarians, to support school-wide instructional activities. The position may also involve teaching in specialized settings, such as science labs or technology education labs, where greater monitoring is required to ensure student safety.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Valid Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education.
  • Eligibility for a Virginia teaching license in Special Education (must submit transcripts).
  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment related to instructional specialties.
  • Understanding of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development.
  • Familiarity with Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) curriculum and organizational goals.
  • Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs.
  • Skill in using multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on Division and school objectives and student needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
