The Teacher for Special Education, specifically for students with Moderate Intellectual Disabilities (MOID), plays a crucial role in providing tailored instruction that meets the unique needs of students with disabilities. This position is located at Heritage Elementary and focuses on creating an inclusive learning environment that fosters academic achievement and reduces behavioral issues among students. The teacher will develop, select, and modify lessons and materials to ensure that each student's individual needs are met, utilizing specialized methodologies aligned with GPS standards. A significant aspect of this role involves the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student on the caseload. The teacher will address the diverse needs of students, which may include lifting and positioning moderately intellectually disabled, orthopedically impaired, and severely and profoundly disabled students, as well as providing sign language support for deaf or hard-of-hearing students. Continuous assessment of student progress is essential, and the teacher will maintain appropriate records to document this progress. In addition to instructional duties, the teacher will collaborate with parents and guardians to ensure a comprehensive approach to each student's educational program. This includes facilitating home-school communication through conferences, phone calls, and written correspondence. The teacher will also serve as a resource for general education faculty, administrators, and related services personnel, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed. Other duties may be assigned by the appropriate administrator as necessary.
