About the position
The position involves working as a Corrections Professional focused on fostering a humane and secure environment for individuals preparing for successful reentry into communities. The role emphasizes the importance of public safety and the development of good neighbors through innovative educational programs tailored to meet the needs of special learning students within a correctional setting.
Responsibilities
- Implement the overall remedial reading, language arts, science, social studies, and/or math curriculums.
- Maintain life skills, study strategies, and cognitive strategy programs.
- Design new programs to meet special needs and place students into prescribed programs.
- Interview and evaluate prospective special learning needs students.
- Administer individualized formal and informal diagnostic special education and literacy tests.
- Maintain and evaluate accurate records of student progress and redesign programs as necessary.
- Ensure the security of the institution as part of correctional responsibilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with supervised student teaching.
- At least one course in general psychology, human development, history/philosophy of education, and teaching methods.
- For secondary positions, at least 24 semester hours in principal fields of instruction.
- At least 24 semester hours in special education, including courses on teaching exceptional students.
- GL-07: One year of graduate level education or Superior Academic Achievement.
- GL-09: Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in teaching special learning needs students in core subjects.
- Ability to develop individualized lesson plans and modify existing curricula.
- Experience in selecting, administering, and interpreting academic tests.
