The Substitute Teacher at Summit Academy Management is responsible for providing a quality educational program to students under their direct supervision. This role is essential in ensuring that the educational needs of students are met in a manner that is appropriate for their abilities, subject matter, and personal characteristics. The teacher will report directly to the School Director and is expected to adhere to the school calendar and guidelines set forth by the institution. The position is salaried and exempt from overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The Substitute Teacher must possess a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and hold a valid Ohio teaching certificate or license. They must also meet the Federal Properly Certified Teacher standards as determined by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). A thorough background check is required, including a criminal record check by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to generate, record, and maintain information and statistical data. The teacher will also be responsible for administering, scoring, and interpreting individual achievement tests, and must have knowledge of the Ohio Department of Education model curriculum and Ohio's New Learning Standards. Confidentiality of student records and school business must be maintained at all times. The role encompasses various responsibilities, including instructional skills, classroom management, professional attitudes, and personal characteristics. The teacher is expected to demonstrate effective planning, utilize a variety of teaching methods, create an inviting learning environment, and encourage the proper care and usage of educational materials. They must also establish and maintain positive rapport with students and staff, uphold school rules, and implement the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Behavior System. Professional growth is encouraged through participation in improvement activities and curriculum committees, and the teacher is expected to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
