About the position

The Teacher - World Languages (Spanish) position at Hickman High School is a full-time role responsible for delivering Spanish education to students within the Columbia Public Schools district. The teacher will meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations, ensuring that the educational needs of all students are met through a well-planned and implemented program of study. This role requires the teacher to create a conducive learning environment that aligns with the maturity and interests of students, while also preparing for classes and providing evidence of preparation when requested by supervisors. In this position, the teacher will guide the learning process towards achieving curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons and units. A variety of instructional techniques and media will be employed to cater to the diverse needs of students. Collaboration with administrators, colleagues, and parents is essential to foster a positive and productive educational atmosphere. Regular assessment of student accomplishments will be conducted, with progress reports provided as required. The teacher will also evaluate learning problems and seek assistance from district specialists when necessary. Maintaining accurate records and adhering to district policies regarding student conduct and classroom behavior is crucial. The teacher will be available to students and parents for educational purposes outside of instructional hours when needed. Additionally, the role includes planning and supervising assignments for teacher aides or volunteers, attending staff meetings, and participating in committees as required. Continuous professional development and adherence to the district's educational philosophy are expected to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public Schools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain the Missouri teacher certificate in Spanish.
  • Documentation of current language proficiency at Advanced Low or higher is preferred.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to integrate technology into daily instruction.
