About the position

The Teacher for World Language Spanish at Western High is responsible for creating and maintaining a classroom atmosphere that fosters high expectations and enthusiasm for learning. This role involves integrating critical thinking skills, application skills, interpersonal skills, and technology into a curriculum that aligns with district and state standards. The ultimate goal is to achieve measurable student achievement gains for all students. The teacher will utilize various assessment strategies, both traditional and alternative, to support the continuous development of learners. Effective communication with students, parents, and stakeholders is essential to ensure a collaborative educational environment. In addition to assessment and communication, the teacher will engage in continuous professional development to enhance their skills and contribute to the school's improvement. They will employ instructional strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking among students, while also considering the diverse backgrounds and learning styles of each student. Adherence to ethical standards and regulations is crucial, as the teacher must fulfill contractual obligations and uphold the principles of professional conduct in Florida. The teacher will establish a classroom management system that encourages discipline and creates a positive learning environment. This includes planning, implementing, and evaluating effective instruction and assessment across various learning environments. Collaboration with peers, parents, and the community is vital for the continuous improvement of educational experiences. The integration of technology into teaching and learning processes is also a key responsibility. Additionally, the teacher must complete any required training for working with Limited English Proficient (LEP) students and maintain accurate school records as mandated by law and district regulations. Other duties may be assigned by the principal as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the subject matter.
  • Establish a classroom management system that maintains discipline and engages students in learning.
  • Plan, align, implement, and evaluate effective instruction and assessment in various learning environments.
  • Collaborate with peers, parents, and the community to improve educational experiences.
  • Integrate appropriate technology in teaching and learning processes.
  • Complete training and obtain endorsement for working with Limited English Proficient (LEP) students if assigned.
  • Maintain school records and prepare required reports.
  • Account for all school property as prescribed by regulations.
  • Perform activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • Appropriate State of Florida certification.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.
