About The Position

The position involves preparing individuals for successful reentry into communities by fostering a humane and secure environment within correctional institutions. The role requires planning and implementing individualized instructional programs tailored to the diverse learning needs of an incarcerated adult population, while also maintaining the security of the institution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with supervised student teaching and courses in psychology, human development, history/philosophy of education, and teaching methods.
  • One year of graduate level education or specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level for GL-07 applicants.
  • Teacher certification or licensure in a State, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in maintaining student records.
  • Experience in following standardized curricula to meet student needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement individualized instructional programs based on assessment data and knowledge of teaching strategies.
  • Select appropriate individualized teaching techniques, including individual guidance, peer tutoring, and behavior modification.
  • Design and develop curricula to meet the diverse learning needs of an incarcerated adult population.
  • Maintain security of the institution as a primary responsibility.
