About the position

The Teaching and Research Postdoctoral Associate in Chemistry at Elizabethtown College is designed for individuals preparing for a career as a research-active faculty member at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI). This position involves collaboration on an NSF-sponsored project focused on nucleobase-modified peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) for RNA recognition, alongside teaching responsibilities and mentoring undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on sequence-specific recognition of double-stranded RNA using triplex-forming PNAs.
  • Design and synthesize new PNA monomers to modulate the structure and function of non-coding regulatory RNAs.
  • Mentor undergraduate student research projects and assist with group instrumentation maintenance.
  • Present research findings at national meetings and publish results in scientific journals.
  • Teach two or three introductory undergraduate lecture and/or laboratory courses per academic year.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical biology, or a related field (ABD candidates will be considered with a defense date by June 1, 2025).
  • Experience and enthusiasm for research with a solid publication record.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and experience mentoring undergraduate research.
  • Desire to be a research-active teacher-scholar at a PUI.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specific expertise in synthetic chemistry, heterocycle synthesis, and/or computational modeling of nucleic acids.
  • Demonstrated success in high-quality teaching of undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ph.D. earned within the last five years.
