About the position

The Teaching Artist for School & Education Community Programs develops and implements object-based, interactive classroom lessons for a diverse group of elementary school students and their families as part of the Creative Classrooms and Communities Create LA! programs and K12 teacher professional development. This role involves facilitating art making workshops at Title 1 elementary schools, libraries, and community centers throughout L.A. County.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and facilitates object-based, interactive, arts integrated lessons for elementary-school students with diverse backgrounds, including English Language Learners, gifted and advanced students, and students with multiple needs
  • Implements lessons that adhere to best practices in museum education and are aligned with current State standards for the visual arts, history-social sciences, and/or English language arts and Common Core State Standards
  • Uses technology as needed to teach students about traditional art concepts, such as composition, perspective, and proportion and digital tools to create new forms of art, such as digital paintings and/or 3D models
  • Conceives of and facilitates intergenerational object-based art making lessons at community centers and public libraries
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Studio Art or Art History
  • At least two years of teaching experience developing lessons in a museum setting
  • Familiarity with elementary school curriculum and object-based teaching
  • Ability to conduct independent research in areas relevant to LACMA's collection
  • Experience working with special needs, PreK, TK, and elementary school students in a classroom setting
  • Experience working with digital media is preferred
  • Strong, effective, and demonstrable written and oral communications, relationship-building, and presentation skills
  • Experience with digital platforms such as Zoom, Google Meets, Google Docs, and Google Slides
  • Have reliable transportation and a willingness to work at schools throughout the Los Angeles County region

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in a second language, such as Spanish, is preferred but not required

Benefits

  • The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $55.00, subject to change.
